ToolBase Usage Guide
ToolBase is entirely reliant on people adding content to the platform, allowing users to have an easier way of accessing information and resources for developing and designing applications. This comes with some responsibilities and guidelines I kindly ask you to follow.
On this page, I will walk you through how to use ToolBase, as well as adding context on how to provide contributions, edits, and request features or changes to the platform. Thank you in advance for reading this and using ToolBase.
Navigating the Platform
ToolBase is built to be as simple as possible to navigate. Everything revolves around the sidebar and the header, with the tool categories having their own dedicated pages that can be accessed by clicking on the corresponding button in the sidebar. If you want to return to the home page, you can do so by clicking the site title in the header.
To view a specific tool and its details, you can click on the tool card on the page, which will open a dialog containing all the details of the tool, which can then be closed by clicking the "X" button in the top right, or clicking anywhere outside the dialog.
Adding Tools
To add a tool to ToolBase, you click the "Add Tool" button in the top right corner of the page, next to your profile picture. This will open a dialog box containing a form containing the following fields:
- Tool Name
- Description (optional)
- URL
- Category
- Logo (optional) (*Only SVGs under 50KB are accepted)
Once you have filled out the form, you can simply click the "Add Tool" button at the bottom of the form to submit it. This should immediately add the tool to the platform, where you can go and view it in the corresponding category page, or on the home page.
Accurate Categories
I am committed to allowing everyone to add tools freely to ToolBase. As part of this, it is crucial that categories are accurate to ensure that tools can be found in their logical place. Please be certain that a tool belongs in the chosen category before submitting it. If you are unsure, visit their website or ask Google or some form of AI to assist you. Editing and Deleting Tools
For safety reasons, you need to request permission to be able to edit or delete tools. This is done to avoid people tampering with tools added by other users. You can request permission by simply clicking the "Request to Edit" button in the sidebar, which will allow you to submit a request form, which I will respond to as soon as possible.
When you have been granted editor permissions on the site, you will be freely able to edit existing information, i.e. to update outdated data, as well as being able to delete tools which do not belong on the site.
